INERTIA

A world in motion

What is the game?

INERTIA is a 3D platformer with a focus on momentum and flow, developed for a university level assignment as a group of 8 that I led.

What did I do?

I was elected producer and lead for the 3 month development after pitching the idea and plan for INERTIA and its production. I held a meeting every week in order to evaluate if everybody was completing their tasks, to set them new ones, and to communicate with the team. Developing in Unreal Engine, I got a great deal of experience in blueprinting and coding, and level design. There were many situations in which I demonstrated my technical skills, delegation and negotiation, problem solving, decision making, and leadership.    To give an example:

I started the project with me and team member A as programmers and B as a level designer. What I soon discovered from the weekly meetings and evaluating progress against my plan and the tasks given was that A was very capable and willing to put in more effort than I expected from them, and B was not putting in the amount of effort required to complete the job. So while still getting the chance to program for the game, I negotiated with the team about our roles. I did my best to adapt my communication style in order to motivate B to do their part, but after weeks of this I made a decision in order to solve the problem, which was to take on the majority of the responsibility for level design.
